Cenang Beach

Tourists looking for fun on their Langkawi head straight to Cenang Beach on the south western coastline of Langkawi. This popular beach is the longest beach on the island and probably the most attractive. Known to the natives as Pantai Cenang, the beach is a long stretch of golden white sands and is virtually a tourist paradise.

A number of accommodations, eateries and tourist establishments have sprung up here in recent times to cater to the burgeoning influx of visitors. A number of chalets, budget hotels and five star accommodations make Cenang Beach one of the most developed tourist center in entire Langkawi. Beyond the sands lie the dense green rainforests of this tropical island and this wilderness provides fodder for the adventure thirsty younger lot. Cenang Beach is easily accessible since it is located at a mere distance of 18 kilometers from Kuah City.

The shoreline of Cenang is especially famous for the extraordinary sunset view it provides. The two kilometer long coast stretch is fringed swaying with casuarinas and coconut trees. Duty Free shopping at the Zone Shopping Paradise is a sheer delight. Indulge yourself in the best chocolates, beer, cigarettes, clothes and electronic items at throwaway prices. Visitors to Cenang Beach often find great thrill in wading to the nearby Rebak Kecil Island when the tide is out. It is important to return while the tide is still low as the mainland often becomes inaccessible at other times. Underwater World and Laman Padi are other popular attractions of Cenang Beach.

Pasir Hitam Beach

Some 2 km west of Tanjung Rhu is Pantai Pasir Hitam, a beach streaked with black sand. The black streaks are caused by the deposits of mineral oxides from a nearby spring. The sea in the area is dotted with large boulders. Along the beach is a jetty where fishing boats moor. Attractions include food and souvenir stalls that sell local crafts and trinkets.

The Langkawi Cable Car

The Langkawi Cable Car is one of the major attractions in Langkawi Island, Kedah, Malaysia. It provides an aerial link from near Burau Bay Resort at Teluk Burau to the peak of Gunung Machinchang, which is also thelocation of the Langkawi Sky Bridge. The total length is 2.2 km (1.4 miles). It was officially opened in 2003.

Langkawi Cable Car is located just north of Telaga Harbour, Pantai Kok, with the entrance within ‘ORIENTALVILLAGE’ – a theme shopping centre housing in 30 individually designed buildings showcasing Malaysian and Oriental architecture. It is located just north of the Langkawi International Airport, on the north-western coast of the main island of Langkawi. It is just an approximate 40 minutes drive from Kuah town and 15 minutes drive from Langkawi International Airport.

On a clear day, you can see parts of Thailand towards the north and Indonesia towards the south-west. The cable car ride up the hill takes about 20 minutes and is highly exhilarating. At the top, there are two stations as well as a viewing bridge that let you take in all of Langkawi. As a bonus, your ride will take you over junglewaterfalls and a thick carpet of virgin rainforest. It’s a very educational and thrilling experience for the whole family.
