Tourists looking for fun on their Langkawi head straight to Cenang Beach on the south western coastline of Langkawi. This popular beach is the longest beach on the island and probably the most attractive. Known to the natives as Pantai Cenang, the beach is a long stretch of golden white sands and is virtually a tourist paradise.
A number of accommodations, eateries and tourist establishments have sprung up here in recent times to cater to the burgeoning influx of visitors. A number of chalets, budget hotels and five star accommodations make Cenang Beach one of the most developed tourist center in entire Langkawi. Beyond the sands lie the dense green rainforests of this tropical island and this wilderness provides fodder for the adventure thirsty younger lot. Cenang Beach is easily accessible since it is located at a mere distance of 18 kilometers from Kuah City.
The shoreline of Cenang is especially famous for the extraordinary sunset view it provides. The two kilometer long coast stretch is fringed swaying with casuarinas and coconut trees. Duty Free shopping at the Zone Shopping Paradise is a sheer delight. Indulge yourself in the best chocolates, beer, cigarettes, clothes and electronic items at throwaway prices. Visitors to Cenang Beach often find great thrill in wading to the nearby Rebak Kecil Island when the tide is out. It is important to return while the tide is still low as the mainland often becomes inaccessible at other times. Underwater World and Laman Padi are other popular attractions of Cenang Beach.
Pasir Hitam Beach
Some 2 km west of Tanjung Rhu is Pantai Pasir Hitam, a beach streaked with black sand. The black streaks are caused by the deposits of mineral oxides from a nearby spring. The sea in the area is dotted with large boulders. Along the beach is a jetty where fishing boats moor. Attractions include food and souvenir stalls that sell local crafts and trinkets.
The Langkawi Cable Car
The Langkawi Cable Car is one of the major attractions in Langkawi Island, Kedah, Malaysia. It provides an aerial link from near Burau Bay Resort at Teluk Burau to the peak of Gunung Machinchang, which is also thelocation of the Langkawi Sky Bridge. The total length is 2.2 km (1.4 miles). It was officially opened in 2003.
Langkawi Cable Car is located just north of Telaga Harbour, Pantai Kok, with the entrance within ‘ORIENTALVILLAGE’ – a theme shopping centre housing in 30 individually designed buildings showcasing Malaysian and Oriental architecture. It is located just north of the Langkawi International Airport, on the north-western coast of the main island of Langkawi. It is just an approximate 40 minutes drive from Kuah town and 15 minutes drive from Langkawi International Airport.
On a clear day, you can see parts of Thailand towards the north and Indonesia towards the south-west. The cable car ride up the hill takes about 20 minutes and is highly exhilarating. At the top, there are two stations as well as a viewing bridge that let you take in all of Langkawi. As a bonus, your ride will take you over junglewaterfalls and a thick carpet of virgin rainforest. It’s a very educational and thrilling experience for the whole family.
Pulau Payar Marine Park
is situated in the northern part of the Straits of Melaka, 19 nautical miles south of Langkawi and encompasses the islands of Pulau Payar, Pulau Lembu, Pulau Segantang and Pulau Kaca which are surrounded by coral reefs. The marine park teems with a fascinating diversity of marine life and vegetation.
Many endangered species of fishes and marine organisms live within the sanctuary. Measuring 2km long and 1/4 km wide, Pulau Payar is the most popular of the islands as its sheltered waters are ideal are for snorkeling,diving and swimming. Among the enchanting dive spots is the “Coral Garden”, an area covered with bright, multi-hued soft corals.
There are several sandy beaches on Pulau Payar island for picnics as well as hiking trails for those who wish to explore the island. Just off the beach, one can indulge in the thrilling experience of feeding baby sharks. Facilities include
Located in the north-western corner of Pulau Langkawi, Telaga Tujuh (Seven Wells) is a geological marvel. The waterfall is so named because its cascading waters is broken by a series of seven natural pools. The lush green forest that surrounds the waterfall adds a mystical touch to the natural splendour.
Legend has it that fairies used to come down to the waterfall to bathe and frolic
ATMA Alam Batik Art Village
Langkawi's original art village in Padang Matsirat highlights Malaysian art and culture. Individuals or groups are welcome to be a part of the batik workshop. Original batik and oil paintings are for sale and can be specially requested.
